A notice naming 100,000 companies at once sounds dramatic. The mechanism behind it is one CAC has now run several times.
What CAC announced on 15 July 2026
On 15 Jul 2026, CAC published a notice listing 100,000 companies it intends to strike off the register. The companies are named directly on cac.gov.ng.
Being on the list is not the same as being struck off immediately. It is a warning stage, with a clear condition attached to avoid the next step.
The legal ground behind the notice
CAMA allows CAC to strike a company off where it is not carrying on business, not in operation for 10 years, or not complying with CAMA for 10 consecutive years. The notice is the first public step in that process, not a final decision.
CAC must publish its intention before acting, and this notice is that public step, published on cac.gov.ng for the companies it names.
The 90-day window and what it actually requires
Companies named in the notice have 90 days from 15 Jul 2026 to file every outstanding annual return and put their PSC, or persons with significant control, information in order. CAC asks for evidence of this to be sent to its dedicated address for the exercise, not assumed from a payment alone.
Miss the window, and CAC has said affected companies may be struck off without a further, separate notice. That makes the 90 days the real deadline, not a soft suggestion.
Why a sixth batch is not a one-off
This is CAC's sixth such batch, not its first. An earlier batch, also naming 100,000 companies, went out roughly a year before this one.
That pattern matters for anyone tempted to treat a strike-off notice as unlikely to reach their own company. CAC runs this as a recurring compliance sweep, and it is unlawful for a struck-off company to keep trading regardless, so the risk does not disappear by ignoring the notice.
Directors and officers of struck-off and wound-up companies remain on the hook for unpaid penalties even after a strike-off happens, which is a further reason not to wait out the 90 days hoping the notice does not apply.
What to do this week if you are unsure
Do not wait for a letter that may never come by post. Check the notice on cac.gov.ng directly, and confirm the company's own filing history with CAC's public search.
