Quick answer

CAC's current registration fees took effect 1 Oct 2025, after two delays while its new portal settled in. A private company now pays ₦10,000 for every ₦1 million of share capital or part of it, and name reservation costs ₦1,000. From 2026, an extra ₦200 service charge applies to name reservation too.

If you registered a company before 2025 and are doing it again now, do not reuse the old figures. CAC's fees moved, and moved again since.

This matters beyond curiosity. A budget built on an old figure can leave you short at the payment screen, or short when a partner or investor asks what registration actually costs today. It also matters when you are comparing quotes from different filing agents, since a quote built on the old numbers is one worth questioning.

When the new schedule took effect, after two delays

The current registration fee schedule took effect 1 Oct 2025. CAC pushed the date back twice before that, while it worked to stabilise its new registration portal.

Anything you read that quotes a fee from before that date is describing the old schedule, not the one CAC charges now. That includes older blog posts, old agent quotes, and advice from a friend who registered a company a few years back.

What a private company's incorporation fee is now

A private company now pays ₦10,000 for every ₦1 million of share capital or part of it. The rate applies per band of share capital, so the total still depends on the figure you choose.

Our guide to how CAC calculates your incorporation fee walks through the maths with worked examples.

Name reservation's fee and its new 2026 service charge

Name reservation costs ₦1,000. From 2026, CAC added a separate service charge on top, ₦200, on name reservation applications.

CAC has said this extra charge does not replace the statutory fee. Budget for both together, not one or the other. It is a small addition on its own, but it catches out anyone quoting last year's total from memory.

The restricted-words fee, if your name needs one

A name that needs a restricted word costs more to reserve: ₦5,000 instead of the standard fee.

Where to confirm you are quoting the current figure

CAC's fees have shifted more than once in a short period: the main schedule in 2025, then the added service charge in 2026. Treat any fee you see quoted, including the ones in this article, as worth re-checking against new Company Registration Portal (CRP) before you rely on it for a real registration.

Our guide to how CAC calculates your incorporation fee and cost guide to registering a company with CAC are kept in step with the current schedule. Bookmark one of those rather than a screenshot of a fee table, since a screenshot does not update itself when CAC changes the figures again.
