Why class A has its own price
FRSC prices its licence classes separately, and class A, for motorcycles and tricycles, costs less than the classes for cars and commercial vehicles. It's the class most okada and keke riders need, and often the only one they need.
The lower price reflects the vehicle type, not a discount for new riders or a shorter process. A class A application still goes through the same portal, the same payment step and the same one in-person capture as any other class.
The 3-year and 5-year figures
Class A costs ₦7,000 for 3 years or ₦11,000 for 5 years. As with other classes, payment channels may add their own charge on top of these government fees.
| Term | Class A fee |
|---|---|
| 3 years | ₦7,000 |
| 5 years | ₦11,000 |
What class A actually covers
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J make up the full list FRSC issues, and class A sits at the start of it, covering motorcycles and tricycles. A rider who only ever rides a motorcycle needs nothing beyond class A. Our guide to licence classes sets out what the other letters cover, in case you also drive a car or a commercial vehicle.
A mistake that costs riders more
Some agent guides quote class A at the same price as a car licence. That's wrong, and paying it means handing over more than a class A application actually costs. Confirm the figure against FRSC's own FAQ, or a filing service that shows the government fee before you pay, rather than take a flat quote from someone at a motor park.
The same fee applies whether you're applying for the first time, renewing, or replacing a lost licence. What changes the amount is the term you choose and the class itself, not why you're applying.
Renewing a class A licence later
When your class A licence is due for renewal, the same two fees apply again: ₦7,000 for 3 years or ₦11,000 for 5. Nothing about renewing makes the class more expensive, so it's worth planning ahead for whichever term you preferred the first time.
Holding more than one class
A licence can carry more than one class. If you ride a motorcycle now but expect to drive a car later, you can add a class rather than starting again from scratch. Our piece on how many classes one licence can carry covers the limit and how an upgrade works, and what it costs to add one.
Where to pay once you know your term
Once you've picked 3 years or 5, payment happens on the FRSC portal, nigeriadriverslicence.frsc.gov.ng, the same place you started your application. For the full step-by-step, see our guide to renewing a driver's licence.
