Passport fees in Nigeria depend entirely on which booklet you pick. Get the choice wrong and you either overpay or run out of pages early.

The two booklets NIS actually prices
NIS sells 32 pages with 5-year validity or 64 pages with 10-year validity. These are the only two combinations with a published naira fee.

The NIS passports page still mentions a 64-page, 5-year booklet in places, but neither the 2025 fee announcement nor the current service charter gives it a naira price. Don't quote a fee for it without confirming on the portal first.
When these fees started, and what they replaced
Both fees have been in place 1 Sep 2025. Before that date, the numbers were noticeably lower.

That is roughly a doubling on both booklets in one review. NIS's announcement did not set out a public reasoning beyond the review itself, so treat the jump as a fact to budget for rather than one you need to explain to anyone.
Which booklet actually makes sense
The 64-page option costs more but buys five extra years and double the pages. If you travel often enough to fill a passport with visas and entry stamps, the per-year cost usually works out lower on the bigger booklet.
If you travel rarely, the 32-page, 5-year option avoids tying up money in pages you will never use. Either way, the fee is the same whether you renew through the portal yourself or have a vetted partner firm handle the paperwork for your passport renewal.
Think in terms of pages per year rather than the headline price alone. A frequent traveller who fills ten to fifteen pages a year works through 32 pages long before five years are up, which defeats the point of the cheaper booklet.
What the fee does not include
Neither figure above includes a correction to your data page, courier delivery, or the premium service. Each is billed on its own, and not every one has a published amount.

Paying the right amount
Pay only through the NIS passport portal, not in cash at passport offices, and confirm the total shown before you approve payment. The government fees tool is a quick way to check this figure against other agency fees you might be paying around the same time.

Common mistakes with passport fees
- Budgeting from an old fee seen in an outdated article or forum post.
- Assuming the 64-page booklet also comes in a 5-year version at a lower price.
- Paying twice by mistake, which NIS's refund rules treat differently from a simple overpayment.
