NIMC charges Nigerians abroad a different fee from the one charged inside the country, and the amount depends on which modification you need and where in the world you happen to be living.

The fee by region
A date of birth correction costs $55 from within Africa, and $60 from anywhere else, including the UK, US, Europe and Asia.
Both figures come from NIMC's May 2025 diaspora fee schedule, priced in US dollars rather than naira, the same review that reset the domestic fees. That schedule also applies the same fee across Africa regardless of the specific country, and the same higher fee across every other continent.
How it compares with the fee inside Nigeria
Inside Nigeria, the same date of birth correction costs ₦28,574. Converted at any reasonable exchange rate, the diaspora fee is markedly higher, whichever region you are applying from.
The once-only rule still applies wherever you are. NIMC allows a date of birth correction only once, not once per country you have lived in.
Other fields cost the same everywhere abroad
Modifying a field other than date of birth, such as your name or address, costs $10 regardless of which country you are applying from. Unlike the date of birth fee, NIMC does not split this one by region.
That is also markedly different from the ₦2,000 charged for the same kind of change inside Nigeria. It is worth double-checking which figure applies to you before you pay, since the domestic and diaspora prices sit in different currencies entirely.
Where and how to pay from outside Nigeria
You use the same self-service portal as anyone applying from inside Nigeria, at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng, and the same device rule applies: the same device and browser used to create the account.
A vetted partner firm can handle the paperwork side of a modification while you are abroad, though you will still need to arrange payment in the currency NIMC's schedule specifies.
Common mistakes
- Paying the domestic naira fee by mistake. Confirm you are being charged the dollar diaspora rate that applies to your region.
- Assuming the once-only date of birth rule resets when you move country. It does not, since NIMC tracks the correction against your NIN rather than your location.
- Not confirming which region rate applies. Africa and the rest of the world are priced differently for a date of birth correction, so check which bracket you fall into before you pay.
