How long is an NSITF compliance certificate valid?

NSITF compliance certificate validity: guides say one year, but NSITF's own pages do not state it. Check what each tender asks for.

Quick answer

Guides, including Koriat Law and Legit.ng, say an NSITF compliance certificate is valid for one year and is renewed yearly. NSITF's own pages do not state a validity period. Tender invitations list certificates as valid until 31 December of the bidding year, so plan on an annual renewal.

NSITF's own pages do not say how long the certificate lasts. Here is what is known, what is not, and what tender notices actually ask for.

What guides say

Business and legal guides describe the NSITF compliance certificate as a yearly document. A Koriat Law guide from October 2023 calls it a yearly certificate. Legit.ng, in a guide dated 7 November 2025, says it is valid for one year and must be renewed every year.

Two sources agree. That is useful, but it is not the same as NSITF saying it.

Neither is a primary source. Both are commentary. They may reflect how NSITF works in practice, or how the writers understood it. Treat the figure as a working assumption, and label it that way in your own notes.

What NSITF's own pages say

NSITF's own pages do not state a validity period. That does not make the guides wrong. It means the figure is second-hand.

If the exact length matters, ask NSITF directly. It matters most in a dispute, or where a contract clause names a period.

What tenders ask for

Tender notices set their own test. Invitations to tender list certificates as valid until 31 December of the bidding year. That is a date test, not a length test.

So a certificate that is current on the day you submit is not always enough. It must also meet the wording of the notice. Read the notice for the exact date it wants.

Notices may differ. One may ask for a certificate valid at the closing date. Another may ask for one valid to the end of the year. Read each notice on its own terms, and do not reuse last year's assumption.

Plan on an annual renewal

Whatever the exact rule, plan on renewing once a year. Under the Public Procurement Act 2007, every bidder must have paid all taxes, pensions and social security contributions due, so keep monthly payments up to date. Payments run through ecsonline.nsitf.gov.ng.

Put the renewal date on one compliance calendar with your other certificates. Do not track it from memory. Renew before you need it, not in the week a tender lands.

A simple habit helps. When you renew, write the new date in your calendar the same day, and set a reminder well ahead of it. Do not rely on a colleague's memory.

For the certificate itself, see the NSITF compliance certificate page.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a guide's "one year" as a published NSITF rule. NSITF's own pages do not state that figure.
  • Assuming the NSITF certificate follows the PenCom date rule. PenCom's expiry is published; see how long a PenCom certificate is valid.
  • Waiting for a tender notice before starting a renewal.
  • Ignoring the date wording in the tender notice itself.

Questions people ask

How long is an NSITF compliance certificate valid?

Guides, including a Koriat Law article from October 2023, describe a yearly certificate valid for one year. NSITF's own pages do not state a period, so ask NSITF if the exact length matters to you.

Does the certificate end on a fixed date each year?

NSITF's own pages do not state a fixed expiry date. Tender invitations list certificates as valid until 31 December of the bidding year, so plan your renewal around the wording of the notice.

Is it the same rule as the PenCom certificate?

Not on anything NSITF has stated. A PenCom certificate expires 31 December of the year it is issued, and PenCom's 2025 schedule shows it. NSITF's own pages state no matching rule, so do not assume the NSITF certificate follows it.

How can I check an NSITF certificate?

Use NSITF's verification page at ecsonline.nsitf.gov.ng/verify-certificate. See how to verify an NSITF compliance certificate.
