Why this route is worth knowing
Downloading a digital copy of your slip in NINAuth is free. A standard paper reissue, by comparison, costs ₦600. Our reissue cost guide breaks down the paid routes if you need a physical copy instead.
For a lot of everyday situations, such as filling in an online form or sending proof of your NIN by email, a digital file does everything a paper slip would.
What you need before you open the app
- The app itself, from ninauth.nimc.gov.ng or your phone's app store.
- Your NIN, or the details needed to sign in to your NINAuth account.
- A stable connection, since verifying your identity in the app needs one.
Have these ready before you start, so a weak signal partway through does not force you to begin again.
The steps to download your slip
- Open the NINAuth app and sign in.
- Go to "Do More with NINAuth".
- Select "NIN Slip".
- Choose download, and save the file to your phone.
Since there is no fee for this specific download, you should not see a payment prompt at this step.
Saving and printing it afterwards
Save the downloaded file somewhere you can find it again, such as a cloud backup or an email to yourself, not only your phone's downloads folder. Phones get lost, reset or replaced.
If you need a paper copy, print the downloaded file at home or at a print shop. This is separate from printing the improved slip through NIMC's own self-service printing route, which uses a different process and a payment step of its own.
Keep the original digital file even after printing. A crumpled or faded paper copy is easy to replace when you still have the source file.
If the app cannot find your record
Confirm you are signed in with the details tied to your actual NIN. A mismatch between what you enter and what NIMC holds is the usual reason a record does not appear.
If the app still will not load your record after that, checking your status online is a reasonable next step. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app is worth trying too, in case the version on your phone is out of date.
Common mistakes
- Assuming you need to pay. The in-app download is free.
- Only saving the file to your phone. Back it up somewhere else too.
- Confusing this with the improved-slip printing route. They are different processes with different steps.
- Giving up after one failed sign-in attempt. Double-check the details before assuming the app itself is broken.
