What still has to happen in person
Most of a driver's licence application happens on your phone: the form, the payment, the upload of your documents. One part doesn't. FRSC is clear about who must attend the capture centre: the applicant, in person.
This applies whichever route brought you there. Renewal, re-issue and a first-time application all end at the same kind of appointment, for the same reason: a photo and a set of fingerprints can only be captured from the actual person.
Why sending someone else does not work
Biometric capture means your own fingerprints and your own live photo. A relative or an agent can carry your documents to a processing centre, drop off a form, or even queue on your behalf for an earlier step. What they cannot do is sit in for the capture itself.
Some applicants try anyway, sending a driver or a relative with the full document set. Centres turn this away, because the record being created is tied to a person, not to a folder of papers.
What the visit itself involves
The visit is short and specific: a live photo, and your fingerprints, taken at the centre you chose when you applied. There's no test at this stage for a renewal, and no separate interview. You attend, you're captured, and you leave.
What if something comes up on the day
If you can't make your booked appointment, contact the centre to rebook rather than simply not showing up. A missed slot doesn't cancel your application, but it does mean the card can't be produced until the capture actually happens, so treat the date like any other appointment you can't afford to skip.
Once your capture is booked, the rest of the process, including paying the government fee, happens on your phone rather than at a counter.
How this compares with the no-visit filings
Several of the documents Docufy helps with need no office visit at all, such as a CAC annual return, a VAT return, or a NIN slip reissue. A driver's licence isn't one of them. Along with a passport and a police character certificate, it keeps a single in-person step, because a live photo and fingerprints can't be captured any other way.
Booking the visit without wasting a trip
Confirm your appointment details and your chosen centre before you travel, and bring the documents your application listed. Arriving without the right paperwork, or at the wrong centre, turns one visit into two for a step that should only take one.
Give yourself a little more time than you think you'll need on the day. A queue at the centre is still far shorter than the alternative of rebooking and coming back another day.
