A director moving house sounds like the kind of thing that can wait. CAC's rule does not treat it that way.
This updates particulars, not who the directors are
Nobody new joins the board and nobody leaves it. You are correcting one field, a residential address, on an entry that already exists.
CAC's own law groups this together with appointments and exits under one heading: any change in the register of directors or residential addresses. The filing looks similar, even though nothing about who runs the company has changed.
This kind of update is easy to overlook precisely because it feels minor. A director who moves house rarely thinks of it as a company filing at all, until a bank or a due diligence check notices the mismatch.
The same filing deadline applies
File the update within 14 days of the change. The clock starts on the date the director's address actually changed, not the date they mention it in a meeting.
CAC change of directors: the deadline covers this timing rule in full. It is the same rule whether you are appointing someone, recording an exit, or, as here, just updating a detail.
A new consent to act is not needed for this filing. The director already gave one when they were appointed. You are amending an existing record, not creating a new one.
What the amended register shows afterwards
Once CAC processes the change, the director's entry shows the new address going forward. Anyone searching the public register from that point sees the current detail, not the old one.
Change of directors vs change of particulars sets out how CAC distinguishes this kind of update from a full change of directors, if you are unsure which one you are dealing with.
Why an old address left on file causes problems
An old address sitting on CAC's register is more than a paperwork gap. Banks doing due diligence on a company often check director details against the public record.
A mismatch between what a director tells a bank and what CAC shows can slow down account opening, a loan application, or a tender submission, for a reason that has nothing to do with the underlying business.
Keeping the register current between annual returns
The annual return is not a substitute for this filing. Waiting for the next annual return to reflect a director's new address leaves the register wrong for months in between.
Treat a director's change of address as its own small task, separate from your yearly compliance calendar. It takes far less effort to file promptly than to explain a stale record later.
Once you have the correct new details, CAC change of directors: the deadline sets out the filing window itself. The CAC registration hub links the rest of this series on post-incorporation changes.
