What MVAA runs
Lagos MVAA runs any of 140 licensing stations, designated banks, or online at portal.autoreg.ng. That gives you three types of option, not just one building to queue at.
A station is a physical office. A designated bank is a separate channel MVAA lists on its own schedule. The portal is fully online.
What each option actually handles
Not every option handles every transaction. A simple renewal, where nothing about the vehicle or owner has changed, is the easiest to move online.
A change of ownership or a plate replacement tends to need the station itself, since both involve physical documents a screen cannot check. Ask before you assume a fully online path exists for your specific case.
A designated bank sits between these two. MVAA lists banks as their own channel on its schedule, separate from a station and separate from the portal, though not every bank branch will offer this service.
Paying online first
You can pay many fees at portal.autoreg.ng before you go anywhere. You then collect your printout at a station afterwards.
Since 1 September 2025, a Payer ID, NIN or NIN-linked phone number is required for a renewal processed through AutoReg. Have this ready before you start, so the payment does not stall part-way through.
What to bring to a station
Bring your vehicle registration document and your own identification, whichever option you use. Bring anything specific to your transaction too, such as an old plate for a replacement, or your ownership documents for a change of ownership.
A station can only move as fast as the paperwork you hand over. Missing one document is the single biggest cause of a wasted trip.
Call ahead if you can. A quick question about your specific transaction can save an entire journey if a document turns out to be missing from your set.
Common mistakes
Assuming every transaction can be finished entirely online is the first mistake. Some genuinely need a station.
Travelling to a station without your documents, on the assumption that "they will tell me what's missing", is the second mistake, and it usually means a second trip. Skipping the NIN or Payer ID step before starting an AutoReg payment is a third, since the payment will not go through without it.
Assuming any bank branch handles vehicle licensing is a fourth mistake. Confirm with the specific branch first, rather than travelling on an assumption.
Treating one station as identical to another in what it can process is a fifth mistake. If one office cannot help with your specific transaction, ask it to point you to one that can, rather than guessing at random.
