NIMC revised its NIN modification fees on 2 May 2025. If the number you remember is lower than what the self-service portal shows today, that is why, and it is not a glitch on the portal's side.
Here is exactly what changed, and what to check before you pay.
What changed on 2 May 2025
NIMC raised the fee for a date of birth correction from ₦16,340 to ₦28,574, a rise of about 75%.
The fee for most other fields, including name and address, rose from ₦1,522 to ₦2,000. NIMC described the review as its first in years, after a long stretch on the same, older price structure.
The new figures against the old ones

The date of birth fee rose by a larger share than the other-field fee, which widens the gap between the two even further than before. Budgeting with the wrong, older figure is one of the easiest ways to be caught short at the payment step.
What did not change
The self-service portal itself stayed the same, at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng, as did the device and browser rule NIMC applies to every account.
The once-only rule on date of birth corrections, only once, also carried over unchanged.
Why the increase caught people out
Many guides, forum posts and even some official-looking pages online still quote the pre-2025 figures, since a fee page is easy to leave unchanged after a service is published. That gap between what people expect to pay and what the portal actually charges is where most of the frustration around this increase comes from.
NIMC's own July 2025 statement on waiving the fee for its own errors, discussed in our fee waiver breakdown, came a few months after this increase and is a separate matter from the price itself.
Common mistakes since the increase
- Trusting an old screenshot or forum post of the fees. Anything quoting the pre-2025 figures is now out of date.
- Assuming the increase applies evenly. The date of birth fee rose by a much larger share than the other-field fee.
- Not budgeting for the higher date of birth fee, then discovering it at the payment screen after already gathering documents.
What to check before you pay
Confirm the current figure at nimc.gov.ng/fees rather than relying on any article, including this one, since NIMC can revise its prices again without much notice.
